LOW TIDE 1

woodcut, 220x300mm
edition of 20
printed on Wenzhou mulberry paper
In my prints I often work with patterns I observe in nature.

A pattern is the repetition of forms or movements creating a sense of order, of rythm, or of continuity. In the natural world patterns arise as the visible traces of underlying forces.
They reveal both structure and unpredictability: they repeat, yet never in exactly the same way. Patterns expose the tension between order and variation, the way life organizes itself while remaining open to change.

The reference for Low Tide is the beach, the pattern created by the marks of the cutting tool on the surface of the plywood reminiscent of ripples in the sand.
